Mary Ploughman-Jones
"MARYMATS" Creative Rug Hooking
Creatively inclined from an early age with a formal background in commercial art, Mary was introduced to primitive rug hooking in 1989 and it has been an on-going love affair. She has been fortunate in having many well known teachers guide her on this journey in the "joys of hooking", encouraging her own unique style and interpretations.
Inspiration and whimsy come from her Maritime surroundings with the desire to meld colour and texture using primarily over-dyed and recycled wool.
Mary's mats and wall creations have been displayed and sold at various galleries and venues including Howes Hall Gallery where she is a participating member.
Commissioned works in primitive style please her immensely…from pictorials to the family pet. Mary finds the interchange of ideas and interpretations are wonderfully satisfying.
Mary has held successful workshops in primitive rug hooking during past seasons and welcomes new and previous students to contact her through Howes Hall Gallery or marymats@ymail.com. to arrange for classes or private lessons.
