2009 Comments

Congratulations on the opening of Howes Hall Gallery. This is a fine achievement for the Brackley Bay Group, and an excellent addition to the local and PEI arts community.

A great regional gallery offers a place for the community to see itself. In this, Howes Hall and your collected works set a new standard. Your art builds on a strong sense of place. And the community is enthusiastically supportive, as demonstrated by the hundreds in attendance on Opening Night.

On top of all this, Howes Hall Gallery is a true collaborative venture, based on strong friendships and diversity of artistic endeavour. Not least, it is based on a collaborative approach to the business side of sharing your artistic talent. I trust the PEI community and visitors will become supporters and owners of the fine art of the Brackley Bay Group.

In this Hall, my grandparents met for the first time. They married and moved to Massachusetts. Here we are about 90 years later. Beautiful artwork!

In 1970 my husband and I got married. We came to PEI for our honeymoon and had a wonderful lobster supper [ in this hall] complete with strawberry shortcake, homemade, served by the local ladies.

I recall the year must have been 1951. I was in grade one and had a recitation. Wearing a nightie and carrying a doll and candle. I can still remember the smell of my singed hair after the big scurry from behind the curtains to blow out the candle.

Wonderful to see 'the Hall' brought back to life. Many memories of having our Christmas concerts here, and the practices getting ready for the big night. Later years I worked at the lobster suppers here. THANK YOU for all the work in restoring a part of our history.
